Airport Seizure Disrupts Channel Crossing Supply Chain

A major operation at East Midlands Airport intercepted 25 boats destined for criminal gangs, preventing their use in dangerous Channel crossings and disrupting illegal supply chains.

25 boats. Capacity for around 1,700 people. Seized before they could be used in dangerous Channel crossings.

A major seizure at East Midlands Airport has stopped a shipment of boats destined for use by organised criminal gangs.

The boats were found in air freight travelling from Turkey to the Netherlands. The National Crime Agency and Home Office Intelligence Team identified the shipment before NCA and Border Force officers intercepted it.

It’s the first time a large consignment of boat equipment has been found in air freight.

Since July 2024, more than 1,100 boats and engines intended for Channel crossings have been seized.

Following the supply chains and taking equipment out of criminals’ hands is vital to stopping gangs putting lives at risk.

Thank you to everyone involved in this operation
