MP for Redcar & Cleveland

About Anna

Anna Turley is the Labour Member of Parliament for Redcar & Cleveland, Minister of State for Border Security & Asylum

For more than a decade, Anna has proudly called Redcar home. She has dedicated her career to standing up for local people, fighting for investment, protecting jobs and ensuring that communities like ours have a strong voice at the heart of government.

Anna first became MP for Redcar in 2015 and quickly found herself leading the fight for local families following the loss of the steelworks. She helped secure millions of pounds for retraining, business support and regeneration, working tirelessly to ensure local people were not forgotten. Even after losing her seat in 2019, Anna stayed in the area, supporting local charities, helping at the foodbank, championing children in care and continuing to serve the community she loves. She returned to Parliament in 2024 with an even stronger determination to deliver for Redcar & Cleveland.

Today, Anna continues to champion the issues that matter most to local residents: good jobs, better public services, safer communities and a brighter future for the next generation. Whether in Parliament, in Cabinet, at community events or on the doorstep, she remains committed to being a hardworking, visible and accessible local MP.

Justice for Baby — and animals everywhere

Inspired by the horrific abuse of a local dog called Baby, Anna led a national campaign to strengthen sentences for the worst cases of animal cruelty. Her work helped increase the maximum prison sentence from six months to five years — a change that has protected animals across the country.
