GREAT BRITISH GRID: Faster Connections. More Competition. Lower Costs

Faster grid connections, more local investment.

This matters here on Teesside. At Wilton, Teesworks and across our industrial communities, businesses have plans ready to move forward, but grid connection delays are holding projects back too often.

I know from speaking with businesses just how important it is to get this right. Faster connections could help unlock investment, support jobs and give industry the infrastructure it needs to grow.

That’s why the Government is creating Great British Grid, a publicly owned body within Great British Energy. It will bring public and private investment together to speed up essential grid projects and help get power where it is needed.

Businesses and developers will also be able to build their own connections where appropriate, helping cut delays. Similar reforms in Ireland have reduced connection times by up to 11 months.

For Teesside, this is about giving businesses the chance to get on with the projects in the pipeline and plan for what comes next. A stronger grid can help power jobs, industry and growth across our area.
