THE REDCAR NEIGHBOURS TURNING AN ALLEY INTO A COMMUNITY GARDEN ❤️🌿🎨

Redcar neighbours win award for community garden
Huge congratulations to the residents of Alfred & Muriel Street on winning a Silver award at Northumbria in Bloom.
What began as a community effort after the alley gates were installed before Covid has become something special. Residents pooled their own money and got stuck in, turning a neglected alley into a colourful garden with plants, lights, murals and artwork.
They’ve even reused tyres, sinks and bathtubs as planters for flowers, herbs and fruit trees. Local artists and school pupils have added murals that give the alley real character.
But this is about more than gardening. Residents say the project has helped tackle fly-tipping, vandalism and antisocial behaviour, while bringing neighbours together. The children have put on talent shows, there have been barbecues, and the space gives people somewhere to meet and spend time together.
The idea is already inspiring neighbours across the railway to do something similar. You might not know Alfred & Mueriel streets alley is there, but once you’ve seen it, you won’t forget it.
A brilliant example of what people can achieve when they come together and take pride in their street. Well done to everyone involved. ❤️🌿🎨
