TARGETED KNIFE CRIME SUPPORT FOR CLEVELAND POLICE

Extra support is being provided to tackle knife crime and make communities safer across Cleveland.
Cleveland Police will receive additional support as part of the Government’s national programme to tackle knife crime in the areas most affected.
Five areas across Cleveland have been identified for extra patrols, CCTV, improved public spaces and early intervention programmes to help prevent young people being drawn into violence.
This is targeted support based on local need, alongside the £2 million of additional funding already announced for Cleveland Police and more than 300 extra officers supporting our force.
I have been speaking with the Home Secretary, the Policing Minister and the Prime Minister about the support Redcar & Cleveland needs, with those discussions taking place at the highest levels of Government.
I want to thank our Labour Government for listening and delivering for Redcar & Cleveland.
There is more to do, but this is an important part of the long-term plan to tackle serious and organised crime, prevent violence and make our communities safer.
