£1 Billion Boost for Redcar & Saltburn Rail Services

Better, cleaner and more accessible rail services are on the way!
Fantastic news for our railway!
The Labour government has confirmed a £1 billion investment in 29 new British-built battery-electric trains, that will be running on services through Redcar to Saltburn.
These are the first battery-electric trains of their kind on a UK main line, and here's the bit I'm most excited about: they'll run zero-emission on the stretch of track into Saltburn that isn't electrified. That means electric trains reaching our coast for the first time ever, cleaner, quieter and smoother than anything we've had before.
On top of that, passengers can expect faster journeys, more seats and better accessibility with level boarding, no more struggling with the gap between train and platform.
Built at Alstom's historic Derby works, this deal backs over 350 skilled jobs, 40 apprenticeships and 40 student placements, plus thousands more across the UK supply chain.
Manufacturing starts in 2028, with trains in service by 2034. Great to see this kind of investment coming to Redcar and Saltburn.
